Hope CommUnity Center reorganizes Saturday event into one for Hurricane Milton relief

With Hurricane Milton approaching, Hope CommUnity Center (HCC) decided to shift the focus of its Saturday, October 12 event. Originally scheduled as “Meet in the Middle for Hope”, the event will now be a relief community effort called “Meet in the Middle For Relief” to meet the immediate needs of families during these difficult times.

The Meet in the Middle for Hope relief effort will take place Saturday, October 12, noon-4 p.m.
at Hope CommUnity Center South, 800 S. Hawthorne Ave., Apopka.

HCC will distribute essential items and offer any additional support, as well as still provide educational resources for the upcoming elections.

HCC is asking for the community’s help with donations. The nonprofit is collecting food, personal hygiene supplies, and financial contributions to provide immediate support to those most affected.

“We know from past storms like Irma and Ian that immigrant and Latino families are disproportionately impacted. Many of them are not eligible for FEMA aid, and their financial stability is fragile. Our mission is to ensure these families are supported during this critical time,” Debo Ofsowitz, Development Director at Hope CommUnity Center, was quoted as saying in a news release.

When it is safe to do so, HCC staff intends to visit local vulnerable neighborhoods to assess damage and needs, gather data for advocacy, and invite community members to the October 12 relief event.
