Hello Folks,
I hope everyone had a great weekend and you got a chance to enjoy the Blue Full Moon we had at the first of the week. I walked outside and enjoyed how bright the moon was and how big it seemed. Accordin’ to NASA, the blue moon is closer to the Earth, and so it looks bigger and seems brighter. Anyway, the fishin’ is still slow for most folks.
Kyle at Bitter’s Bait & Tackle reports that not too many folks are gettin’ on the water and goin’ fishin’. The panfish have slowed way down in most of the lakes. I do see some nice stringers of shellcrackers bein’ caught in some of the local lakes in our area. Most of those shellcrackers are bein’ caught on grass-shrimp, and a few are bein’ caught on red-worms.
The bass fishin’ on the Kissimmee Chain has been pretty good as of late. X-Treme Bass Series held a tournament on the chain last weekend. The team of Andrew Hall and Kyle Brewer grabbed the win at the Lake Toho Division. They weighed in 5 bass that hit the scales at 29.20 pounds. Kyle Brewer caught the biggest bass of the day with a 6.34 pounder. You know what they say an ounce of water makes a difference – how about 1/100th of an ounce of water. Kyle’s big bass was 1/100th of an ounce bigger than the next biggest bass caught that day. Kyle’s bass weighed in at 6.34 pounds, and the next big bass weighed in at 6.33 pounds. Folks that’s as close as it can be and I’m sure the guy that caught the 2nd biggest bass was heart-broken. I know I would have been.
The bass fishin’ on Johns Lake has been a little slow since FWC sprayed the lake. Last Wednesday night, the team of John Brazell and Mike Bruton won the tournament with 3 bass that hit the scales at 9.80 pounds. John and Mike also had big bass of the tournament which weighed 3.55 pounds.
I also want to mention that the FWC has issued a School Fishing Club Grant to 50 schools for the upcoming school year. Each school was awarded a $500-grant for this school year. The money will help with the club expenses, fishin’ gear and tackle. The FWC also provides program curriculum and educational materials to be taught throughout the school year by the club sponsor. In addition, at least one conservation project activity must be completed by each school durin’ the year.
Well, I finally got a chance to do some fishin’ last week, and I fished the Harris Chain. I fished with my future grandson-in-law Josh Dannels. We only fished a few hours, but it was nice to get on the water and run the boat before he went back to college. The good news is, we did catch 6 bass up to 3 pounds. Yours truly caught big bass. We caught most of our bass around the submerged pepper grass patches on speed worms. Josh was usin’ a green-pumpkin, and I was usin’ a June bug with red glitter.
I wanted to mention that we need some more rain. A lot of the lakes in our area are very low and need some rain. Kyle reported that most of the ramps around Lake Apopka are mud holes and it’s tough gettin’ your boat in the water. So, please be careful when you go fishin’– and check the ramp to make sure you can launch your boat safely.
Well that’s it for this week. I’ll see ya next week.
Tip of the week: Blue Moon
Save a few and good luck!
