JAMES J. “JIM” THERRELL SR., 76, Jacksonville, died Wednesday, February 16. Mr. Therrell was born in Union, South Carolina. Mr. Therrell was an ordained Presbyterian pastor and served local churches for 12 years, including First Presbyterian Church of Apopka. He spent 30 years as an insurance agent with Farm Bureau. Survivors: wife, Mary Frances; son, Jay; one grandson.

PEGGY A. FORTUNE, 75, Apopka, died Sunday, February 20. Ms. Fortune was born in Concord, North Carolina. Survivors; son, Hans; two grandchildren. Loomis Family Funeral Home, Apopka.

CYNTHIA A. BROWN DEMPSEY, 59, Tavares, died Tuesday, February 8. She was in Orlando and formerly lived in Apopka. She enjoyed cooking for others and loved to travel. She worked in the telecommunications industry, starting as a telephone operator in 1980 with United Telephone. Survivors: spouse, William, Tavares; son, Greg Brown, Orlando; parents, Joe Brown, Ann Brown, both of Tavares; sister, Debbie Cain, Sorrento; brothers, Larry Brown, Dickson, Tennessee, Mike Brown, Orlando.

RAYMOND LEVI MARCUS JR., 87, Apopka, died Monday, February 21. Mr. Marcus was born in Charles Town, West Virginia. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Alaska. He was employed by J&P Properties of Apopka and Winchester, Virginia. Mr. Marcus also served as a volunteer firefighter in Virginia. After moving to Apopka, he joined St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and volunteered his time at the food pantry for many years. Survivors: daughter, Cheryl Marcus Whitmer; son, John E., Gainesville; stepdaughters, Lynne Posey, Lynn Haven, Pam Donaldson, Sanford, Debbie Sherman, Sorrento; stepson, Kim Radliff, Orange City; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. DAVID L. POWELL JR., 65, Apopka, died Saturday, February 5. Mr. Powell was born in Chicago, Illinois. He was a devout Christian, serving in churches as a teacher, singer, and deacon. He was also an Alabama Crimson Tide fan. Mr. Powell was a personal planning adviser for Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home.
