Despite hot weather, fishin’ has been pretty good locally

Hello Folks,

Well, we were supposed to get some rain this week, but none so far as I write this. We are still in the dog days of summer and until we get some rain to cool things off, it’s gonna be hot.

Well, believe it or not, the fishin’ hasn’t been too bad for those folks who are gettin’ on the water and doin’ some fishin’. Eric Panzironi and his buddy fished the Little Brothers tournament on the Harris Chain last week. They finished in second place with a five-fish limit that hit the scales at more than 24 pounds. They also caught the biggest bass of the tournament that weighed in at 8.70 lbs. Eric reports they caught all their bass on the new Copper Head Chatter-bait made by 1st Gen Fishing.

Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle reports that a few more folks got on the water this past week. Folks are catchin’ some bluegills and a few shellcrackers in the St. Johns River. Folks are catchin’ ’em on red worms and grass-shrimp. Kyle also reports that folks are catchin’ some bluegills and shellcrackers on Lake Kissimmee, too.

The bass fishin’ hasn’t been too bad on the Mait-
land Chain. Most folks are fishin’ for schoolers at first light. You need to fish the submerged grass beds when the sun gets high in the sky. Kyle’s Bass Club fished West Lake Toho last weekend and it took five bass that hit the scales at more than 21 pounds to win the tournament.

The FWC had a large scale plantin’ project at Lake Kissimmee. They planted nearly 325,000 native aquatic plants to promote expansion of healthy fish and wildlife habitat. The plantin’ was done in North Cove, Lemon Point, and the School Bus area, and also Jack’s Slough. This effort will increase native submerged and emergent aquatic vegetation to reduce coverage of invasive plant species. Folks are catchin’ some bass in John’s Lake on the west side of Orlando. Most folks are fishin’ at night. You can catch some durin’ the day, but you need to get on the water early or go late in the day until early evenin’. Folks are catchin’ some bass in the Butler Chain. Most of the bass are bein’ caught around the submerged hydrilla and pepper grass patches throughout the chain.

Well, folks, that’s it for this week. I hope you get a chance to do some fishin’ and, hopefully, we will get some rain and maybe, just maybe, some cooler weather.

Tip of the week: early or late.

Save a few and good luck!
