The city of Apopka continues to monitor the track of Hurricane Milton. Orange County, Florida is currently under a local state of emergency, and also a state and federal state of emergency. The county is also under a Hurricane warning.
Sandbags
The city will continue to have sandbags available until noon on Wednesday, October 9, at Edwards Field (behind Kit Land Nelson Park).
- Tuesday, October 8, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 9, from 7 a.m. to noon
Office closures
- Apopka recreational facilities will be closing at 5 p.m. on October 8, in preparation for the storm.
- Apopka City Hall, city offices, and city parks and recreation facilities will be closed on Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10.
- Apopka City Hall, city offices, and city parks and recreation facilities will reopen on Friday, October 11.
- PLEASE NOTE: The Apopka Police Department and Apopka Fire Department will have additional staff on hand to keep the community safe, before, during, and after the storm.
Sanitation schedule
Wednesday, October 9
The Sanitation Division will operate a limited schedule on Wednesday for recycling only. Please be sure to have your containers at the curb at 7 a.m. sharp, as the city will be running extra trucks in order to finish earlier and may be in your neighborhood earlier than usual.
Please do NOT put any yard waste on the curb and please secure your bulky items and yard waste until after the storm passes.
Thursday, October 10
All waste collection will be suspended on Thursday.
There will be no make up day for garbage. If your garbage day pickup day is Thursday, you will get your next normal pickup on Monday.
Friday, October 11
The city will send out additional updates after the storm about collection.
Stay tuned to the city’s website and social media sites for information about debris collection and citizen drop off locations.
Shelters
The Apopka High School Shelter will open at 6 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 and is located at 555 Martin St, Apopka, FL 32712. This shelter is a general population and pet-friendly shelter for people living in low-lying areas and mobile homes that need shelter from the storm. It will remain operational until the storm is over.

Transportation
Florida has suspended tolls to assist with Hurricane Milton evacuations
ACCESS LYNX will be providing life sustaining medical trips starting Tuesday, October 8. If sustained winds reach 35 mph from Hurricane Milton, the LYNX transit system will shut down temporarily for safety reasons.

Apopka hurricane phone line
Apopka Hurricane Phone Line will open on October 9 at noon for non-emergency issues within the city of Apopka such as traffic lights out, tree limbs blocking the road, flooding, waste water back up, etc. Contact city of Apopka’s non-emergency line, 407-703-1850.
