Hello Folks,

We are gettin’ closer to fall, and by the time you read my article, fall will be here in 9 days. Yes, that’s right. On September 22, Fall begins. I can hardly wait to have some cooler weather.

The X-treme Bass Series held their monthly tournament on Johns Lake last weekend. Congrats to the team of Billy Charland and Don Fisher on their win. They hit the scales with 4 bass that weighed 25.73pounds. They also had the big bass that weighed in at 5.59 pounds. There were only 8 boats in the tournament but the win put $590 in their pocket. Again, congrats to Billy and Don on their win.

Also, The X-treme Bass Series held a tournament on the Kissimmee Chain over the weekend. The team of Kyle and Cheryl Brewer won their tournament with 5 bass that hit the scales at 26.89 pounds. They also had big bass that weighed 7.38 pounds. Congrats again to Kyle and Cheryl on their win on the Kissimmee Chain. Oh, by the way, Kyle and Cheryl are a Mom and son duo that know how to catch bass!

Kyle at Bitter’s Bait & Tackle reports that the fishin’ is still a little slow for panfish. The specks haven’t started to bite yet, but if we can get some cooler weather soon, hopefully that will get them ole specks to begin hittin’.

The FWC’s TrophyCatch program has hit a milestone. The TrophyCatch program became a cornerstone of the FWC’s efforts to promote and conserve Florida’s world-class bass fishin’.

Since the program started back in 2012, you are allowed to submit a bass that weighs at least 8 pounds or more. The program was designed to enhance the understanding of the state’s bass population and to encourage conservation. As of today, the program has received over 15,000 trophy bass catches. Now that’s a milestone.

The program’s success underscores the enthusiasm of the anglers who fish in the state of Florida. If you have been fortunate enough to submit your trophy catch of a bass that weighed in at 8 pounds or more, congrats to you or to someone you know for their catch. A couple of years ago, I was able to submit an 8-pounder that I caught back then.

If you want to know more about the TrophyCatch Program, you can go to the FWC’s website @TrophyCatch.com for more information as to how you can submit your catch. The rules are pretty simple, so check it out. They will be startin’ a new season October 1, 2024, that runs until October 1, 2025. Hopefully, you can take part in this program.

Well that’s it for this week. I hope you get a chance to get on the water and go fishin’.

See ya next week.

Tip of the week: Go catch an 8-pounder.

Save a few and good luck!
