Two members of the Apopka Planning Commission were unanimously approved for another three-year term, while a new member was also voted in to replace a member who resigned from the city board.

The Apopka City Council voted on Wednesday, July 6, to reappoint Mary Norwood and William Gusler to another three-year term, while unanimously giving approval to have Wes Dumey begin his first three-year term on the Planning Commission. He replaces James Greene, who resigned from the Planning Commission in May after serving since September 2010.

Dumey unsuccessfully ran for Seat 2 on the Apopka City Council last March.

The Planning Commission reviews and recommends to the City Council approval or denial of various development requests, such as development plans, proposed site plans, and future land use map amendments, in addition to other items.

There are seven members of the Planning Commission that meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

Donation to group

The City Council agreed to allow the Apopka Police Department, through the State Law Enforcement Trust Fund, to donate $2,000 to the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) for the group’s annual training conference and exhibition that is scheduled for July 22-27 in Orlando.

According to city documents, NOBLE has 50 chapters and represents more than 3,500 members worldwide and represents chief executive officers and command-level law enforcement officials from all levels of law enforcement.

The group serves more than 60,000 youth through its Law and Your Community Program that provides mentoring, education, leadership development, and safety tips.
