Wolf Lake Elementary and Middle schools recently purchased Google Cardboard virtual reality (VR) devices for classroom use, and the schools are asking families to consider donating old Android smartphones for this technology.

With VR technology, the schools can offer students the “field trips of a life time — without every leaving the classroom,” according to a form to parents from Instructional Resource Teacher Jamie Dozier.

“Students can visit faraway places, travel to distant lands, see animals on safari or swim in deep water with sharks, fly through space to visit planets and galaxies, and zoom in inside a cell – learning in a manner like never before,” she wrote.
