New trails open on Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive

Beginning Friday, October 21, from sunrise to sunset, the St. Johns River Water Management District is opening 2.5 miles of new trails on the popular district-owned Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. The new segments are designed to help alleviate traffic bottlenecks.

Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive’s address is 2803 Lust Rd., Apopka.

In the 17 months the drive has been open, more than 81,000 visitors have experienced a variety of wildlife viewing opportunities along a network of wetlands, levees, and canals. For more details about recreation on district property, visit www.sjrwmd.com/recreation.

The St. Johns River Water Management District is one of five districts in Florida managing groundwater and surface water supplies in the state. The district encompasses all or part of 18 northeast and east-central Florida counties. District headquarters are in Palatka, and staff also are available to serve the public at service centers in Maitland, Jacksonville and Palm Bay.
