To celebrate a show business career that spanned over 40 years, the community honored singer Jerry Lawson with a street designation of Old Apopka Road as “Jerry Lawson Way” on Friday, June 9.

Lawson, founder and original lead vocalist of the a cappella singing group the Persuasions, saw the unveiling of the sign bearing his name at the intersection of Old Apopka Road and East Cleveland Street.

A small group of about a dozen attendees was at the dedication ceremony, which occurred across the street from where Lawson’s late mother lived.

Orange County Commissioner Bryan Nelson read the proclamation recognizing Lawson, outlining his and accomplishments.
