MARJORIE R.  GRINNELL, 74, Tangerine, passed away on Wednesday, September 21. She was born on June 14, 1948, in Orlando to Charles E. Grinnell, Sr. and Marguerite Hilda Crown Grinnell. Survivors are: children, James T. Daugherty of Tangerine and his wife, Jill, Stephanie M. Wallis of Claremore, OK and her husband, Kenyon; brothers: Charles Grinnell, Jr. and John M. Grinnell of Tangerine.

BRIAN N. MERRITT, 45, Apopka, passed away on Saturday, September 10. His parents were Aubrey and Janet Merritt. He had two brothers, David and Eric. Survivors are his wife Aimee Merritt; stepson Cameron Coker; mother Janet Merritt, and brother Eric Merritt. He was predeceased by his father Aubrey Merritt and brother David Merritt.

NATHAN R. ARMS, 74, Apopka, died Monday, September 19. He was born on May 24, 1948, to the late Carroll and Helen Arms in Greenville, South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his brother Vardry Carroll Arms. Survivors: his wife Michelle A. Hall; children Nathan (Stephanie) Arms Jr., and Steve Arms; sister Louise Handley. He will be missed by his many loved ones and friends.

RICHARD “Rich” HURT, 61, Apopka, died Tuesday, August 23. He was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Joe and Marjorie Hurt on August 9, 1961. He worked in the construction business, and was a beloved son, brother, uncle. Survivors: Three brothers: Dan Hurt (Judy Nash Ellis) of Acworth, Georgia; Michael Hurt (Laura) of Apopka, Florida; Robin Hurt of Longwood, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents: Joe and Marjorie Parker Hurt. All arrangements are being handled by Purcell Funeral Home Chapel in Bushnell, Florida.

NANCY COLTON PLATT, 86, Apopka, died Thursday, September 15. Nancy was born Nancy Ann Thrush in Peru, Indiana, on February 22, 1936, the youngest of the three children of Hazel Laudenbarger and Marquis Thrush. She survived two husbands, Donne L. Colton who died in 1979 and second husband Lou Comito who died in 2004. Survivors: husband Robert Platt, Apopka; daughter Susan Colton Weiland of Hopkinton, Massachusetts; son Donne Colton, Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia, and two granddaughters.

GEORGE NOLEN KNOX III, 96, Apopka, died peacefully at home, Saturday, September 17. He was born August 28, 1926, in West Des Moines, Iowa, to George Jr. and Evelyn Knox, the second of eight children. He is preceded in death by his first wife Betty and his second wife Neoma. Survivors: son Steven of Apopka; daughter Nancy Long of Altamonte Springs; son John (Laurie) of Ledyard, Connecticut; brother Gene Knox of Claremore, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He will be missed by his many loved ones and friends.

CARLIS MARLIN BALKCOM, 85, died Sunday, September 11. She was born on October 13, 1936. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Services handled by Baldwin Fairchild Apopka.

VERNETTA DURDEN, 92, Apopka, died Sunday, September 18. She was born on May 20, 1930, to John and Annie Ussery in Denton, Georgia. Vernetta was widowed twice, first by her husband Albert Sapp, then by her second husband W. C. Durden and her daughter Nancy Turner. Survivors: Children Bo (Janet) Sapp, Bill Sapp, Bobby (Trena) Sapp and Debbie (Rick) Blanton; brother Grady Ussery; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. She will be missed by her many loved ones and friends.

CARMEN G. MENDEZ, 93, Apopka, died Tuesday, September 19. She was born on February 10, 1929 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is preceded in death by her husband Julio L. Mendez Torres; father of her children Diego Rivera Baez Sr.; her sons Diego Rivera Jr. and Juan Bautista Rivera. Survivors: daughter Margery (Wenceslao) Flores; siblings Minerva Rosado, Orlando Sanchez and Evelyn Sanchez; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She will be missed by her many loved ones and friends.

DANIEL HOHLER, 53, Apopka, passed away comfortably in Ocoee, FL, Friday, September 9, 2022. Survivors are his parents Robert and Bettie Hohler, Apopka; Donald (Katie) Hohler, Marshall, NC; David (Ashley) Hohler, Apopka, FL;  wife Tammy “Kristi” Hohler, Ocoee, FL;  uncle Ed (MaryAnn) Hohler, Apollo Beach; aunt Tammy Jamieson, New Smyrna;  aunt Margaret Allen, Zellwood;  nieces and nephews Adam, Mason, Bradlie, and Harlan and many cousins.

MARY ANN LOCKEBY, 90, Apopka, passed away September 6. She was born July 22, 1932, in Montezuma, Ga. Survivors are her husband, Ed, to whom she was married for 70 years; sons Warren Lockeby and his wife Paige Blackwelder, Greg Lockeby and Anne Reynolds, and many other family members and friends. Loomis Funeral Home Apopka is in charge of services.

JENNIFER LEIGH HARDEE, 41, Zellwood, died on Saturday, September 3. Jennifer is survived by her parents, Steven and Nadine Hardee, Zellwood; her brother Craig Hardee, Zellwood; sister Dina (Joe) Buczkowski, Virginia Beach; 1 niece, 1 nephew, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

WYNETTE DEAN HUGGINS, age 85, began her walk on Heaven’s streets of gold on Saturday, September 3. Wynette worked many jobs before becoming a substitute teacher and school secretary at Dream Lake Elementary and Apopka High School. Later, she was a driving force in their nursery near Lake Ola. She is survived by her daughters Kathy (Jim) Riffle and Karen (Mike) Thrailkill, 3 grandsons, 4 great grandchildren, her sister Mary Butler and many beloved nieces and nephews. Wynette was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) of 62 years, and also her brothers Clarence and Eddie, and her sisters Marie and Dorothy.

JOHN J. MIHOK, JR, 61, Apopka, died Friday, August 26. John is survived by his loving wife, Renee, his sons, Keith (Angela) and Robert (Christine), five grandchildren (Hannah, Jonathan, Paul, Olivia, Jamison), his mother, Joyce, and sisters, Patty & Susan (Warren). He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

MARY JOAN GATES, 86, Apopka, died Wednesday, July 20. Joan was a kindergarten teacher for OCPS having earned her M.Ed degree from Rollins College. Joan is survived by brothers Richard (Marie) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Teddy (Helen) of Fairfield, VA; her children James (Victoria), Gainesville, FL; Raymond (Martha) of Sacramento, CA; Sharon of Apopka, John (Sutton) of Apopka; and Nelson Charles (Anel) of San Antonio, TX, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  She was predeceased by her parents James and Florence Duke, brothers Paul, Nelson, David, sisters Katie and Florence, as well as infant granddaughter Sofia.
