Apopka High will open as a shelter Thursday at 1 p.m.

Apopka High School will be opened as a shelter for Hurricane Matthew Thursday at 1 p.m. The school is located at 555 W. Martin St., Apopka.

The shelter, run by Orange County government, will be open to the general population but pets will not be allowed. The nearest shelter that will accept pets is at Barnett Park, 4801 W. Colonial Dr., Orlando. For a special-needs shelter, call 407-836-9319.

Things to bring to the shelter include: water and food, clothing and bedding, personal items and medication, first-aid supplies, important papers, and miscellaneous items such as games, toys, battery-powered radios, flashlights, and batteries.
