Mayor Joe Kilsheimer will give a State of the City address Monday, December 12, at 8 a.m. at Highland Manor, 604 E. Main St., Apopka. The mayor announced the event last week at the end of a City Council workshop session.

It’s the first time in several years that a mayor has given a State of the City address. Longtime Mayor John H. Land frequently held such speeches, but didn’t give one the final several years of his tenure. This will be the first such address for Mayor Kilsheimer.

City spokesman Robert Sargent said the speech is necessary to keep residents informed about what’s going on in the city.

“The State of the City address is important to recognize Apopka’s accomplishments during the past year and to inform the public of the many transformative changes coming in 2017,” Sargent wrote in an email.

“This is an exciting time for our city when we are improving public services, creating new city facilities, inviting new and expanding business, and improving the quality of life for residents.”

The event is open to the public.
