The draft of the parking ordinance is available for community members’ review on the city’s website, ahead of the Parking Advisory Committee’s Monday, September 26, meeting that will allow the public to comment on the draft.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at Apopka City Hall, 120 E. Main St., Apopka.

Included in the ordinance is allowance for parking on the street, but drivers must leave at least 12 feet of open road between their parked vehicle and any other vehicles or the other side of the street.

The proposed ordinance also calls for no vehicle to be within 15 feet of a mailbox from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on mail-delivery days.

Vehicles must also not block access for garbage trucks to complete their pick-ups. There are several other parking parameters listed in the ordinance, including not parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

The city had a parking ordinance in place for a few years, but the city only began issuing tickets following public complaint.

The Parking Advisory Committee was formed this past summer to address how to accommodate citizens in terms of parking.

More on this story is in the September 23 issue of The Apopka Chief. In addition to that, the newspaper will have a story abut the September 26 Parking Ordinance Committee meeting next week.
