City Council to appoint community development director’s replacement

Only six months after hiring a new community development director, the administration will replace the current one, Mark Reggentin, who intends to depart that position.

James Hitt, an Apopka resident, is expected to be confirmed as the new community development director at the Wednesday, September 21, City Council meeting.

Becoming the Apopka’s community development director is not Hitt’s first-time employment with the city. He was senior planner for the same department from December 1992 to April 2005, according to his resume attached to the City Council agenda packet.

Following his departure from the Apopka administration, Hitt found employment in Clermont as that city’s planning and zoning director from April 2005 to February 2012. Since February 2013, he has served as Clermont’s economic development director and community redevelopment director. Throughout that time, Hitt has resided in Apopka.

Last March, the City Council voted 4-1 to approve Reggentin as community development director with a yearly salary of $121,000.

At the time of the hiring, Reggentin was Mount Dora’s deputy city manager/planning and development director. Reggentin filled in as Apopka’s community development director when Jay Davoll moved from that position to lead the public services department, a post Jean Jreij held before leaving the city.
